Customized Butyl Extruders for Optimum Performance

Maßgeschneiderte Butylextruder

In modern production, the focus is not only on efficiency but also on the ability to customize machines to meet individual requirements. This is where our customized butyl extruders offer a decisive advantage.

1. Understanding the Butyl Extruder: What Is It?

A butyl extruder is a specialized processing machine designed to plasticize butyl sealant in a continuous process. It compresses the sealant to the application-specific tool back pressure, allowing for the formation of profiles or hoses and the coating of various substrates.

The versatility of butyl rubber makes it suitable for coating a wide variety of material surfaces, including metal, glass, concrete, plastic, and more.

The ability to coat different surfaces and the processing capability in the extrusion process make butyl extruders essential tools in various application areas.

  • Automotive industry:
tyre hoses, inner rubber layers for inner-tube tyres, sealing profiles, fuel hoses

  • Construction industry:
sealing profiles, profiles for sealing thermal insulation glass, adhesive and sealing tapes

  • Electrical industry:
cable sheathing, insulation, seals for electronic housings

  • Medical and pharmaceutical:
industry: stoppers for containers and bottles, seals and O-rings

  • Sports and leisure industry:
hoses and air chambers for balls, rubber soles for sports shoes

  • Chemical industry:
hoses for the transport of gases and chemicals, linings for containers to protect against acids and alkalis

The extruded products are characterised by their specific properties such as gas tightness, chemical resistance and flexibility.

2. Butyl Extruder Technologies from rubicon

Butyl Extruder

A carefully coordinated extruder design that considers viscosity and processability is crucial. When combined with an automated and continuous feeding process that handles the diverse properties of the customer's butyl raw materials and semi-finished products, it enables high production efficiency. This leads to precise dimensional accuracy in profile production and exact application accuracy in the coating process.

Various Rubicon sizes are available to meet the wide range of butyl applications.

Features of the butyl extruder:

  • Feeding Zone:
Continuous feeding of individual butyl blocks without splitting or deformation.

  • Adapted Hopper Section:
Prevents overfeeding and allows for larger feeds compared to conventional extruders.

  • Separately Driven Feed Roller:
Ensures uniform or pulsation-free material feed.

  • Specially Developed Butyl Screw:
    Optimized for processing butyl.

  • Temperature Regulation:
Optionally available for high temperatures of up to 160°C.

Feeding Systems in the Extrusion Process for Butyl

Conical screw feeding systems are used for feeding doll-shaped butyl mixtures. The material is slowly and evenly transported into the extruder by a conically shaped feed screw. Its special shape allows for progressive shearing of the material, leading to better mixing. This type of feeding is particularly suitable for materials with varying flow properties.

Transport and feeding systems consist of a cross conveyor belt and a feed belt, which transport the butyl dolls to the feeding section of the extruder. These systems are particularly well-suited for sticky materials.

Wide slot die

The wide slot die is characterized by a simplified distribution system and side loading. It is versatile and suitable for product dimensions ranging from 10 x 25 mm to 1 x 1000 mm. A valve system equalizes the material flow, while the electric heating system enables temperatures from 120°C to 180°C. The connection to the extruder is made via a heated hose or fixed pipework. The average extrusion pressure is between 100 and 200 bar.

3. Cost savings through precision and customisability

A precise and flexible machine is the key to reducing production costs. Our butyl extruders offer the following advantages:

  • Quality assurance:
Precise and customized sealant application ensures that the quality of your end products remains consistently high.

  • Optimised material usage:
By adapting to your production environment, the butyl extruder can apply exactly the right amount of sealant - no waste, no unnecessary material consumption. This not only leads to cost savings, but also supports sustainable goals.
